Youth Sailing

Give Your Kids the Gift of Independence, Adventure and Skills they can use for a Lifetime!

Coyote Point Yacht Club offers a weekly sailing camp for children ages 8 and up wishing to learn how to sail and/or to improve their skills.  We have 15 Optimist (Opti) Sailboats, each 8 feet long, designed for young sailors, that are easy to manage and fun to sail.  We also have a Laser and 2 Flying Juniors for the more advanced junior sailors.

The program is designed to instruct the young sailing enthusiast in basic sailing skills and boating safety and to instill in them the joy of sailing. We provide instruction on the components of a boat, how to set up and sail a small boat, how to handle the wind, and proper boating etiquette. Advanced instruction including sail tuning, basic racing skills, and racing tactics and strategy is provided to students based upon their level of experience and abilities.

Our staff of experienced sailing instructors will put the young mariners through their paces in a comfortable, safe, positive and FUN environment. We look forward to seeing you on the water soon.

Meet the Team

Where the Passion Begins

Kevin Kirberg

Sailing Program Director

Hey there, Coyote Point Yacht Club family and friends! My name is Kevin Kirberg and I am excited to be returning to CPYC as the sailing program director for my 2020 summer. In the off-season, I work for a local construction company as a carpenter as well as a ski coach on the weekends at Squaw Valley. I fell in love with sailing when I was a young child living in Redwood Shores. I grew up sailing mostly for fun in Optis, Lasers, and Cal 20s . When I got to high school, I started crewing for my father on his Olson 25 competing all around the bay.  I have always found sailing to be a beautiful sport, one that I am extremely passionate about. I am looking forward to another fun-filled summer with all of you!

Tanner Gee

Sailing Coach

Tanner Gee is currently a sailor and Mechanical Engineering student representing University of Hawaii at Manoa. He started sailing just before high school at South Beach Yacht Club in 2013. Going into High School at Design Tech he sailed for PYSF. He Co founded the dtech sailing team and competed around the west coast throughout High School until 2018. Along the way, he also joined the PYSF C420 race Team the summer before his junior year and competed with them on the East and West coast until 2018. Favorite sayings: “sailing fast is no big deal just focus on angle of heel”, “There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.” ― Willa Cather

Jack Lugliani

Sailing Coach

Jack Lugliani is a sailor and student at University of Hawaii. He began his debut at the club by coaching our winter sailing camp and is looking forward to coaching more camps in the future.
