South Bay Opening Day Data
This page will provide information for activities at CPYC for the2011 South Bay Opening Day.
If you are coming down the west side of the bay and are not attending the San Leandro dinner - you can berth at Coyote Point Friday, May 13th. If you eat dinner at the CPYC Galley, berthing for Friday night will be paid for by CPYC.
We normally have plenty of space but calling the Port Captain is a very good idea.
Some important new items about Coyote Point:
Fuel
- Coyote Point harbor has diesel and gasoline.
- Free 24 hour Pumpout.
Coyote Point Harbor is newly dredged !
The entrance to Coyote Point Harbor is newly dredged. The entrance to the harbor is well marked and at MLLW (the depths marked on charts and specified as 0 on tide charts on your GPS) are as follows:- Harbour Channel and big basin: 12 - 13 feet
- CPYC Guest dock near club house: 4.5 feet (the bottom is soft mud)
- CPYC Guest Dock near fuel dock: 8 feet
- Heading towards CPYC clubhouse: 6 feet, 5.5 halfway with 4.5 at guest dock.
- Most sailboats have no trouble staying at the clubhouse docks.
- There is clear water coming in from the bay - particularly marker 8 which is about 1.2 nm from the start of the Coyote Point channel. You do not have to turn in as far out as marker 8.
- You can enter the channel quite close at a higher tide to the channel entrance. At a very low tide stay in the channel close to the entrance buoys and you will be fine. Stay out perhaps 100 or 200 feet and turn in.
- There are two green range lights if you are coming in at night down the channel. The lower one is closer to you. This means if the two lights are not in alignment - turn towards the lower one.
- If you are heading to the CPYC clubhouse guest dock, turn sharp left (port) after entering the harbour. If going to the fuel dock berths, turn slightly to the right (starboard). The guest dock is opposite of the fuel dock and there is a sign. Email or call the Port Captain for more information.
- The club telephone number is 650-347-6730. The harbourmaster monitors channel 16. The club also monitors 16 but intermittently.
Wind:
Usually the wind is coming on to your starboard bow. In the late afternoon it can be quite strong but still manageable. There is planty of water in the channel. If you are in a sailboat, note that some keep their jib up to help power themselves into the basin. For more directions: Sail to CPYC
